AP Spanish Language Recorded Questions Explained: Four Answers in 40 Seconds Each
After the presentation you hear four recorded questions about your project. Each question is played twice, and you have 40 seconds to answer. The task is worth 9 points. You cannot ask the recording to repeat or clarify, so the skill is answering quickly and clearly.
The rubric
| Row | Points | What earns it |
|---|---|---|
| A. Task completion | 2 | You answer the question that was asked. |
| B. Cultural understanding | 2 | You show understanding of the community's products, practices and perspectives. |
| C. Control of the language | 3 | Sustained control of verbs, agreement and vocabulary. |
| D. Fluency | 2 | Speech that flows, with few long pauses. |
| Total | 9 |
A four-step answer for 40 seconds
- Answer in the first sentence, using the words of the question.
- Give a reason or a specific example from your research.
- Connect it to a value or belief of the community.
- Compare with your own community or reflect on what it means, at least once in the four answers.
A sample question and answers
Question (made up): ¿Cómo se relaciona una de las prácticas que investigaste con los valores de la comunidad?
It is vague, gives no practice, and says nothing about a value.
It answers directly, names the practice, links it to a value, and compares.
When you do not understand
Because the interviewer is a recording, you cannot ask for help. Say how you understood the question and answer that version: "Entiendo que me preguntan por... ". A clear answer to a reasonable reading earns more than silence.
Practice habits
- Practice with a timer set to 40 seconds and record yourself.
- Prepare two or three facts for each factor of your project, so you can retrieve one quickly.
- Keep going if you make a mistake. Say "mejor dicho" and correct yourself.
Common mistakes
- Starting with a long introduction before answering.
- Describing your project instead of answering the question.
- Staying silent when a word does not come. Use another way to say it.
- Giving the same example in all four answers.

Can I hear a question again?
Each question is played twice automatically. You cannot replay it yourself.
Do I have to know the questions in advance?
No. The questions are not known before the exam, so prepare facts about your project instead.
