AP Spanish Language Project Presentation Explained: Three Minutes, Three Factors and the Three Ps
The project presentation is the first task of Section I. You prepare for 3 minutes, then speak for 3 minutes about the cultural research project you worked on during the year, with your personal reference in front of you. It is worth 11 points, and the content is the part you control. This guide shows how to build it.
The rubric
| Row | Points | What earns it |
|---|---|---|
| A. Task completion | 2 | You answer the project question and explain at least three factors with relevant details. |
| B. Cultural understanding | 2 | You describe products, practices and perspectives of the community and show how they relate. |
| C. Organization | 2 | A clear opening, an order the listener can follow, and a close. |
| D. Control of the language | 3 | Sustained control of verbs, agreement and vocabulary. |
| E. Delivery | 2 | Clear, steady speech, with natural pacing. |
| Total | 11 |
The three Ps
| Term | What it is | Example (the quinceañera in Mexico) |
|---|---|---|
| Producto | An object or creation, material or not: a dress, a dish, a song, a monument. | The dress and the hall. |
| Práctica | A pattern of social behavior: how people greet, celebrate or eat together. | Godparents each pay for part of the party. |
| Perspectiva | The value or belief behind the products and practices. | Family reciprocity: everyone contributes and everyone benefits. |
The relationship among the three is what earns Row B. Explain how a perspective shows up in a specific product or practice.
Choosing three factors
A factor is a cause or aspect that helps explain the topic. For the quinceañera, three factors could be religion and community, godparents, and economics and migration. Give each factor its own product or practice and say what perspective it reveals. A named fact, such as a place, a date or a source, makes the example credible.
A three-minute plan (suggested)
| Time | What to say |
|---|---|
| 0:00 to 0:20 | Introduce your community and the question you investigated. |
| 0:20 to 2:20 | Three factors, about 40 seconds each: the factor, a product or practice, the perspective, and a specific detail. |
| 2:20 to 2:50 | Compare with your own community and say what the comparison shows. |
| 2:50 to 3:00 | A short closing sentence that answers the question. |
The personal reference
Your personal reference is a short outline you bring to the exam, with a limit on length. Use it as a map, not a script. Write the question, the three factors, and one key fact for each. If you read from it word for word, your delivery suffers.
Common mistakes
- Explaining only one or two factors.
- Describing products with no practice or perspective behind them.
- Giving personal stories or general statements instead of a specific fact or source.
- Memorizing a script, then freezing when you lose your place.
- Running out of time before the comparison and the close.
