High school support · built to California standards

Help with the class you are already taking.

Most of these are not replacement courses. They are built to sit alongside the class your student attends in person, the method for every problem type, explained the way a tutor would explain it, and a large bank of extra practice where every single problem has a full worked solution, not just an answer key. Look up the topic you are stuck on, read how it is done, then drill it until it holds. Twelve courses are the exceptions so far: Biology, Chemistry, Physics of the Universe, Anatomy & Physiology, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Financial Algebra, Spanish 1, Spanish 2 and Spanish 3 have been rebuilt as full years on the diploma track, and the others are being rebuilt the same way one at a time.

Free to explore, the first topic in every course, no account needed to start.

How these courses work. Each one is organized by topic rather than by week, so a student can go straight to the thing their teacher covered today. Every topic opens with the method, what the problem is asking, the steps that solve it, and the mistakes that cost marks, followed by worked examples and then practice problems at increasing difficulty. Solutions show the full reasoning, so a student who gets one wrong can find the exact step where it went wrong. Coming: photograph your handwritten work and have it checked step by step, with the line where the error appears marked for you.

Algebra 1 OPEN

Rebuilt as a full year rather than a support course. Eleven units: expressions and units, linear equations and inequalities, functions and function notation, lines and their graphs, systems, sequences and exponential growth, polynomials and factoring, quadratic functions, solving quadratics four ways, radicals and rational expressions, and statistics with bivariate data. Every line of every solution follows from the line above it, and the student is shown why. 75 lessons, 880 practice problems, a formula and theorem reference that stays free, and two cumulative reviews.

Geometry OPEN

Rebuilt as a full year rather than a support course. Eleven units: foundations and constructions, reasoning and proof, parallel and perpendicular lines, transformations and congruence, congruent triangles, relationships within triangles, quadrilaterals, similarity, right triangles and trigonometry, circles, and area with surface area and volume. The governing rule is that every claim names the theorem that licenses it, so a proof here is a chain of reasons rather than a description of a picture. 75 lessons, 880 practice problems, a formula and theorem reference that stays free, and two cumulative reviews.

Algebra 2 OPEN

Rebuilt as a full year rather than a support course. Eleven units: functions with transformations and inverses, quadratic functions and complex numbers, polynomial functions, rational expressions and functions, radicals and rational exponents, exponential functions and modeling, logarithmic functions, sequences and series, trigonometric functions, trigonometric identities and equations, and statistics with sampling and inference. The governing rule is to name the family before you touch the problem, because every technique in the course belongs to one. 75 lessons, 880 practice problems, a formula reference that stays free, and two cumulative reviews.

Biology: The Living Earth OPEN

Rebuilt as a full year rather than a support course. Eleven units: how biology establishes anything at all, energy flow and trophic efficiency, population dynamics, the cycles of matter and human impact, cells and membranes, photosynthesis and respiration, DNA to protein, mitosis and meiosis, inheritance, natural selection, and speciation and biodiversity on a changing planet. Every mechanism comes with the evidence that established it, and the exact wording that earns marks is named in every lesson. 75 lessons, 860 practice questions, six writing tasks built on claim, evidence and reasoning, and a science writing reference that stays free.

Rebuilt as a full year rather than a support course. Eleven units: measurement and the evidence for atoms, the periodic table, bonding and shape, the mole, reactions, stoichiometry, energy and the heat balance of the planet, gases, solutions, kinetics and equilibrium, and acids ending in ocean chemistry. Every law comes with the measurement that established it, and every quantity is worked line by line with the unit conversions drilled until they are automatic. 75 lessons, 860 practice questions, six writing tasks built on claim, evidence and reasoning, and a science writing reference that stays free.
